Well ... why don't you start off first and see if you can pick it up yourself. If it fails, then I guess classes would help? But then again ... you might not be learning the DAW you were practicing on.

What exactly do you want to learn in EMP? Synthesis? Arrangement? Mix-down? Mastering? ...

I actually enjoy taking classes and learning shit formally! :lol:

Well yeah I guess synthesis and arrangement pretty much coin it. I just want to learn the basics of production so I can sit back behind a DAW and, theoretically, be able to produce my own music. Mixdown/Mastering are not a priority for me right now, I can always outsource that to a pro once a track is done. The course is relatively cheap in Dubai and quite affordable since they take installments... but again that all depends whether I do end up relocating there and if I'll be leaving work at the normal time, which I highly doubt!

^ you can do the Audio Engineering program rather than the EMP @ SAE thats what am going to do next month

Dio, you can't theoretically sit behind a DAW just by learning it from a course ... it takes shit loads of practice (which i'm sure you know). Plus, there's no rules on how to structure or stuff ... that's entirely up to you.

Also, mix down is very very important. If your final mixdown is clipping and the levels are all off, no proper mastering engineer will try to fix it. You can't clean up a turd.

Anyway, its a shorter course than the whole AE course. Use it wisely and ask tons of questions.

Well with all this talk here...Dio, it took me a week with an average of like 3 to 4 hours a day to be able to do whatever i want in Reason, except some things like Sidechaining, but theres tons of online tutorials for it. I'd say the best way is a cup of good hot coffee late night for a couple of hours should do the trick...unless u want to learn Mix down and mastering...

basicly there are no rules for production, whatever sounds good to your ears just throw it in...
