i-DJ don’t usually look upon the act of breaking records favourably, unless it’s another peice of Pop Idle-esque tripe, but we’ll make an exception for Leicester based DJ Genix. Of course he won’t be physically breaking vinyl. Quite the contrary in fact - his aspiration is to set a record by playing the longest ever DJ set, get himself in the Guiness Book Of Records, and most importantly raise some serious cash for a very honourable cause.
But it’s not going to be easy. The last chap to attempt this is incredible feat was Cardiff based hip hop jock, DJ Jaffa - who, after 72 hours, fell at the last hurdle and had to quit due to fatigue. The current record holder is Czech disc spinner DJ Blue who mixed for 81 hours, 6 minutes and 32 seconds. Danny Tenaglia eat your heart out!
Genix’s mammoth mix-athon kicks off on Wednesday February 16 in Nu-Revolution, Hinkley. God’s Kitchen’s resident trance-miester Jon O’Bir will then take over from Genix at 10pm on Saturday 19. In that time you could quite easily pop across the channel and see a nice bit of Europe, you could decorate an entire house, you could even learn to knit and make a jumper large enough to look baggy on a darts player - but while you’re doing so please spare a thought for Genix, otherwise known as Damion Houchen, as he’s hammering it out the one’s and two’s raising money for Shelter.
We wish Genix the best of luck, as do his friends - two of them have agreed to donate £100 if they don’t hack pace and stay awake with him!
