Nesta & Ronin @ Basement (22-2-2008)

And when we say BIM Prod, we're talking about whom I consider to be the fastest rising local DJs: Nesta & Ronin. If my memory serves me right, the dynamic duo had already bashed it at Basement a few weeks ago, so they were playing on familiar grounds this time. But they sure took us on one unfamiliar trip!
I got there a bit late after having a fight with an entire valet parking crew elsewhere (long story), but the boys had only hit the decks a few minutes earlier, so I didn’t miss out on much. Basement was packed (when wasn’t it?) and the music was still on the slower/deeper end of the spectrum, setting the crowd up for the impending mayhem to come. Gradually building up their set, Nesta & Ronin exhibited great taste, decent skills, and lively interaction from the early moments of the night, and the crowd was picking up the positive vibes while not having such a hard time getting in the mood. It didn’t take the boys too long to take the energy level higher, and we sure weren’t complaining! Alternating between various subgenres of House and Techno, from Minimal to Tech House to Electro to Progressive and back (and Arno Cost – Apocalypse for the one table of Trance freaks out there), Nesta & Ronin successfully managed to keep things interesting, and to keep the crowd on their feet. Taking turns on the Allen & Heath X:ONE62, the boys showcased their wide taste in electronic music and their professional skills in the art of mixing records. They maintained their booth charisma and energetic interaction till the very end of their set (or at least till I got too piss drunk to remember any further details), and all of Basement was eating up their underground sounds like candy!
I repeat my prediction for the Xth time: NRJ Mastermix’s Nesta & Ronin are two names to look out for in the future of our local EDM scene. They informed me that they will be back to Basement very soon, so I guess I will be back to Basement very soon as well.
