Top 100 DJs Party

Postby Housezone » Tue Oct 16, 2007 6:25 pm

On the 24th October, all will be revealed. With over 250,000 votes cast, who has been voted the world’s No.1 DJ 2007? That’s right — it’s that time again when the world’s no.1 DJ, as voted for by YOU will be revealed. And to celebrate that fact, DJmag are throwing the party to end all parties. We’ve corralled some of the world’s biggest and best DJs to play for the DJmag Top 100 DJs Party 2007, in association with Rizla and Ortofon.

There’ll be an exclusive set from the world’s no.1 DJ, and in addition, Israeli psy-trance demi-gods Infected Mushroom will be electrifying the trance room, and they'll be joined by Sander van Doorn exhibiting his tech-trance skills, and Gareth Emery showcasing his polymorphous grooves.

In the house room James Zabiela will flex his progressive house stylings alongside Nic Fanciulli for their One+One back to back show. French superstar David Guetta and new sensation Fedde Le Grand will also be rocking the house, with more tough grooves provided by Deepgroove and Kriss Darang. SOS, Danny Howells and Martin Solveig will also be stepping up to deliver some serious pressure.

In the techno room, Dave Angel will be dropping classic Detroit, alongside Chris Leibing, Umek and Brazilian dude Anderson Noise.

There’ll also be a special set from our Industry Icon guest, the legendary Alfredo (Ibiza).

The event will take place at seOne Club, 41 – 43 St. Thomas Street, London 9pm – 3am. There’ll be a £7 charitable donation on the door only for RNID’s Don’t Lose the Music Campaign. BBC Radio One will also be covering the event for a Top 100 DJs Party Special. The nearest tube is London Bridge. Get down to get down!

From what I learned from last year's results and the following year's global events, one's DJ Mag position ALONE is not sufficient to get him gigs.

And to capitalize on Raneem's post: whether you like it or not, in most cases (but not in all), it's productions that get you gigs, not your actual DJ skills. Add "connections" to that as well. Sad but true - this is how the industry works.

The industry also works based on marketing, as e-sam already pointed out, and flashy words have always been part of the music promotion business. This is how it's been for decades and for us to stay in the music field requires us to live with this fact, since there's not much that can be done to change it.

Buddies, I really don't care about the whole DJ/Producer thingie getting on the list. What you guys said is true but the whole marketing strategy used to convince the people in the scene that a good producer like SvD is also a stunning DJ is just fucked up!

So going back to your responses, I totally agree that being a producer along with being a DJ is a major plus to be able to become famous. However, being a producer doesn't mean your a good DJ!

Many people voted for producers this year instead of DJs and because of that, the good people in the scene aren't even in the top 100 this year!!!!

You'll see....

Sorry for the rants guys, but it's really getting to me. I'm seeing a lot of down-sides to the scene lately and it bothers me a lot since this is something that comes from the heart you know?

Going off topic a bit here but have you guys been on BP or trackitdown lately? WTF IS GOING ON OVER THERE?! You find all these so called uplifting trance releases that sound like shit. It's like putting so many elements together and coming up with a high energy synth melody that sounds like crap... and for some reason, it's signed to a label and can be sold for cash. And NO that's not called experimenting with sounds... In my books that's called TAKHALLOF!

Wait 'till you read my review of the event, Ressurrection that took place here in Dubai 2 days ago. you'll see EXACTLY what I mean and get to read good and bad things about the scene.

Once again, excuse my ranting and offtopic posts.

I agree with Crow that a lot of good producers get gigs and/or votes even though they're not very good DJs. Gigs can't really be controlled, but I think DJ Mag could do something about the votes issue by setting up two seperate charts: one for DJs and one for producers. Alas, the vast majority of the voters are musical ignorants who won't differentiate the two, and we will probably end up with two very identical charts. The idea is still worth a pilot test though, who knows it just might work!

^ I think that the best way is to put Judges for the DJ MAG Chart, and they put the chart . No Votes are allowed !! (Ya.. Dictatorship baby  )

^ That's a good idea. There are jurys for "American Idol" and "I Can Dance!" (or somethin like that), persons who know how to rate singers and dancers. So a jury for the DJ Mag would be a good idea i guess.

Why the chart at all?
It's the same in football. FIFA releases this chart of the international teams, every once in a while, & they're barely reliable.
But without a chart, I dont know how countries with little EDM knowledge will get their gigs, not knowing which "#1 DJ" to bring...

The judges would be biased. A possible alternative could be having the DJs themselves vote for, say, their top 5, without being allowed to vote for themselves.
