Ouf, that’s a huge misunderstanding. The aim from my first reply wasn’t at all to get over here. I insisted on having BOTH International and Local DJs for the reason that without them, music and clubbing scene will probably linger and never witness a proper progress.
I am one of their first supporters, also a loyal person; local DJs working and spinning here or in foreign countries are pretty talented and that’s surely known. Hence I agree with you about having a kind of equilibrium, a sense of a suitable balance between international and local DJs. On the other hand, no one should ever forget the much gain of experience Local Djs are getting for themselves by warming up for prominent names which is revealing their marked success and talented skills; they have our respect, and they also earn it even more by warming up in brilliant artistic ways or forms. So please do not get me wrong.
We should be the first to encourage them by attending their small gigs, even when it comes to bad organizations; a support is always the same yet better with educated and respectable ravers! But instead of going there early and supporting at least the warm up, some of you, us and many others complain about not supporting the local DJs while all of what these persons do is sticking to the typical ironic Lebanese sophisticated Life-Style by showing up late just for the sake of hearing the main set and witnessing the main performance. That’s what I call NOT acceptable. How do you think DJs and organizers will dare to come up with huge gigs for Local DJs if some of us do not support at least the warm-up? I believe that any, and I mean every single good one in our local DJs list would appreciate that modest maintain and attendance – either through warming up, being the main, or closing up.
I can also understand the bad organization for some events, thus that’s a huge reminder for the DJ to come up with new ideas, break “some” chains and stop “fully” following only the organizers before time’s eventually up. That’s how things are done in our society, and that’s the closest way to improve their ability locally and then globally. Otherwise, we’ll be all stuck in the same situation, daydreaming of big local gigs. Economically and Musically speaking, organizers are here to organize gigs, bring quality music and have some cash back and that’s clear. Therefore the promoters and organizers won’t dare to exposure their DJs to that unless those Djs are up for those themselves too! Hence I’m not only with International Djs no, I support Local ones, but a cooperation of both is the only cure for our scene, that ws my point from the beginning.
No don’t come and tell me that our Local Djs are not known in the region. In fact they are; a number of Lebanese people know them well either by name or musically speaking through weekly radio shows and their advertisements, residencies at famous small clubs where even people who are not into that kind of music still go to, as well as local parties adding warm-ups for big gigs. The quandary in our country is that people have a complicated Life where financial and Social problems are the main priority; they’re not to blame if a whole large population was born in entourage where everyone look only for material profits and tend to often ignore. Hence hearing a name or listening to a particular sound wont last forever in their mind; and few who can understand it, and save it away from trouble, and fortunately we are those people.
I love our DJs, they are my friends and again I underline under the fact that I’m one of their first supporters. In such a social order each one of us should take care of him/herself at all aspects, by the help of someone or a group of people. Here things come progressively so doing brief big steps might be sometimes easy but wring and profoundly deprived from personal experiences and enough knowledge.
Consequently and unfortunately, many DJs wait, watch and sit in the back seat yet some few others are commanding, taking the wheel and ultimately evolve and succeed in their own careers.
And please some people suddenly show up and start talking about cheesy words, I don’t want to start here, it’s a pity. I don’t even believe too much in what is called underground since in my opinion music is wide open, clear and apparent as this kind of terms should be rarely used. Though I’d rather utilize and apply that expression instead of randomly calling some DJs with “unknown” or “unfamous”.
Plus if those DJs are still “unknown” to some of you, then one advice is to make sure to check what those “unfamiliar” DJs play in order to maximize your knowledge, stop throwing random words, then get rid of your negativity and not mine.
My objective intention wasn’t really to get to discuss such issues, I just wish ALL the best for local Djs and I'm always here for the support.
I’d appreciate it now if we get back to the main topic.
