I simply never cared much for awards; I don't need a chart to tell me who the best DJ is. Music is about taste, and tastes differ from one person to another. Each person has a certain sound that he likes to hear, and when a DJ delivers that sound, that person gets hooked to that DJ - that is totally understandable. But what is not understandable nor acceptable are some of the things I read in this thread, a thread that I had decided not to take part in:

* "What is Sasha doing in the top 5?" : I may not be that much of a great DJ, but I can safely say that I never saw any DJ work those effects like Sasha does, not to speak of his unique sound that no one can even imitate.

* "The only good news is that Tiesto is #1" : Yet another sign of uneducated Tiesto-fanaticism.

* "Techno is for kids" : You've probably never even heard real Techno music. Please, don't label 'Satisfaction' as Techno. Buy yourself a Sven Vath album for a change.

* That sublime equation "Tiesto #1 => Tiesto = God of Trance" : I am seriously speechless! God of Trance? Has there ever been such a thing? Can there ever be such a thing? What kind of nonsense is that! As a blinded Tiesto-fanatic you should at least know that Tiesto doesn't spin only Trance, his sets comprise of different styles of EDM, so do his productions. You have no right to call him, or any other DJ for that matter, the God of Trance!

* "Tiesto rocks forever" : How do you know where Tiesto will be in 5 years? What if he switches to Rock like Oakenfold, would still jump around yelling 'Tiesto rocks'?


Tiesto is definetly the most debated DJ in all EDM communities, not because he is "the best", but because he is the most controversial. In the end, the chart reflects the opinion of people, and the results indicate how much each DJ is loved, but as Deej already pointed out, it surely does not indicate which DJ is "better". I would really hope for these petty arguments to end once and for all. People: ENJOY THE MUSIC - this is all that matters. Forget the names, forget the titles, forget the awards, forget ranks... all these things are making you drift away from the main purpose of music: to enjoy it. So stop talking and start listening.

honestly dion, my #1 in a #1 no matter what happens.
i was freaked out by ppl being in the top 30 and wheren't even in the top
150 last year.so much new entries and it's all..dunno..it's just fishy.
that's just my opinion. but i won't vote anymore. if my vote isn't enough
to bring up names that i want then y bother and vote from the 1st place?
the thing is, if i voted for aliens i won't be surprised if they didn't make it,
but i voted for famous name, and it's just shocking how nothing happened
and that no matter what some DJs do in this business, it just doesn't work
some sounds improve, and DJs do down the chart, other sounds worsen,
and those DJs go up the chart. i simply have no comment to add on this
anymore.
congrats to all who made it to the top 100 coz it's not easy to make it up
the chart. it's an important achievement every DJ should be proud of.

Deej, I believe you are one step ahead in your argumentation. I admit that it's-not an easy to grasp- issue. We may be going round in circles here. It's like the classical egg and chicken controversy, which came first?
I don't claim to have the answer to it, yet you seem pretty confortable to finalize the matter.
Again, which comes first: Tiesto's fame and popularity or his talent?
Very simply, why would the man be invited to perform at the olympics if he didn't deserve it? I am honestly more inclined to think that talent brings you fame and not the other way around. (this last declaration is by from being a general one, since we all know the story of crappy artists and fame in Beirut and other cities)

There is always this last point that some trancehits members keep making, which is perfectly legitimate since it is an opinion and not a fact, and it basically says that Tiesto's "past" talent and genius is the reason behind his current popularity. In other words, Tiesto's past era of invincinbility has still not left us and keeps reverberating and influencing voters. It is nostalgia, or "IN MY MEMORY" ironically speaking, that is pushing these voters to choose him over any other DJ. I beg to disagree with such conclusion for the very simple fact I haven't lost faith in Tiesto's late performances and productions.
