Yesterday night was Ferry Corsten's 3rd performance in Lebanon, and I am indeed starting to believe in the saying: 3rd time is a charm. Ferry was the first DJ to play for the Lebanese crowd after the unfortunate events of 2006 and dished out an amazing set. I went that night hoping that tonight's set would be as good...I didn't expect it to be better...
I arrived at BIEL at 11h45 while Amadeus was on the decks. Place was starting to fill up while Amadeus was pounding his music. But it wasn't the best set I heard by our DJ. I honestly expected fresh sounds some ID's and a full on progressive trance set. Instead I heard many radio hits that many of us got tired of. But it got the crowd going all the way and that was the objective of that warm-up. And towards the end of the set the BPM got too fast for a warm-up in my opinion. All in all Amadeus did his job and kept the whole crowd dancing till the moment Ferry got on stage.
At 1h15 the man of the night came up on the decks with his smile and kicked off the night with his fix of his track Into the Dark and that was just the beginning. Ferry kept throwing at us one trance bomb after another. I had trouble IDing many of the tracks but I was loving every bit of it. And then came the surprises of the evening...Ferry threw Cosmic Gate's eternal classic I Feel Wonderful with the voice of legendary vocalist Jan Johnston. And it was not a one-time fling. Corsten also played another famous track for Miss Johnston that slipped from my mind. Ferry is also one hell of a producer and his productions old and new were also very present in his tracklist. Whether it is recent(Beautiful) or classic(his Flashover remix of Fire) it kept the crowd going. But the time came for my personal highlight of the night when Ferry threw my 2nd favorite trance anthem ever Utah Saints - Lost Vagueness(Oliver Lieb's Vocal Mix)...I knew that System F was going to play some classics that night but I had no idea he was going to play some of my(and other members on the forum) favorite trance tunes ever done. But I had to leave at 4 so I didn't get to fully enjoy the Ferry Corsten experience. But I left with a sense of fulfillment I hadn't felt after a trance event in a long time.
I can easily say that was the 2nd best set ever(or even as good as)played in Lebanon after John Askew's performance last year at BIEL that earned an appearance on the Live As series(even though I also heard some amazing reviews on Joop & Bolier's performance). Ferry Corsten rocked us and made me believe in trance once again. There are still great productions and great DJ's out there and Ferry happens to be a great producer and DJ. So once again thank you Ferry for an incredible performance. House freak or trance-head, whoever missed out on that night missed out on an unforgettable performance.
One last thing about the organization...Two thumbs up for Mix-FM who are improving it one event after another. The VIP and Redspace section were managed very well with new entrances and better security. As for the DJ booth it was also very well done with more space for the dancers to express themselves. Great job by the radio station and let's hope they will keep improving because you can always outdone yourself in that category.
