I started my review with a quote to deliver a certain message. What is this message? Well it’s to let you know (people who didn’t attend the gig) what you missed, and believe me you missed a lot.
I arrived at Podium Monot at around 10:00 pm with some friends when DIONYSOS (Saleem) already started his oh-so nice set. After working very affirmatively and confidently on improving his mixing skills, Saleem couldn’t merely stop there. He proved to be so well prepared and this was shown by the people smile on their faces.
As a warm-up Dj, Saleem did respect the norm and was strictly going progressive. It is no secret that he had some mixing difficulties due to anxiety. After all, this gig is considered to be the first one for him. The mixer was new as well as the experience. The sound system didn’t help reducing Saleem’s anxiety since it wasn’t that good and the base was really loud (by default!). It is understandable and natural after all, it happens to everybody.
However, he did a great job. The tracks were excellently selected and the mixing was admirably heard. Nothing affected Saleem’s respectful performance he delivered to his crowd impatiently waiting for the next track. Just as he gotten us used to in his home-grown sets, DIONYSOS played melody, and a whole lot of it. Starting out with more mellow, laid-back tracks, he progressively elevated the energy level, all the while fitting tracks together like an expert, and generating a flow in the set that rendered it ideal for the coming main set by AMADEUS.
We finally got to witness the very first warmup that AMADEUS truly deserves - one of Progressive Trance, not anything else, and one by a Trance reference, not anyone else. The musical transition between DIONYSOS and AMADEUS felt natural (as mentioned above), unlike all the other gigs that AMADEUS had in the past, during which the preceding DJ played a certain sub-genre of House. This was a warmup session par excellence, by a DJ who proved his excellency, for a DJ whose excellency has already been proven time and time again.
This talented young guy’s mission was perfectly accomplished and I salute him for that. “There is no such thing as a great talent without great will-power” (Honoré De Balzac). DIONYSOS, you got my respect.
“People may doubt what you say, but they will believe what you do” (Lewis Cass)
.. And this is what AMADEUS did to prove once again, that he's the number 1 Trance Dj in Lebanon.
AMADEUS took over the decks at 12:30 am courteously mixing over DIONYSOS’ last track! With a sweet and lovely smile he started his most energetic set ever; Tech-trance all the way. I believe it was the very first time that AMADEUS plays that much Tech Trance in a row, so you can only imagine the peak level of energy that vibrated from the speakers!
AMADEUS’ set forced us to dance. Obviously, he didn’t pamper us instead he made us dance like we never did before. He embarked aggressively spinning the “techy”, the energy with the remarkable technical skills and the very professional use of effects. The crowd was raving insanely and kept asking for more, for louder, for faster, and AMADEUS kept delivering. A divine delight was ruling the place in addition to the unique elite that united us, THerz.
At 2:25 am, AMADEUS suddenly lowered the volume and clapped his hands. By this he made us understand and believe that it was the end of his set. In fact, it was the end of the “tech-trance” set! We were all waiting, but AMADEUS thought that he teased us enough and decided to stop it by playing the immortal track, the “killer” track “SATELLITE” (Yes JAD, Satellite!). At that moment, all voices were united singing: You’re half a world away, but in my mind I whisper every single word you say. And before you sleep at night, you pray to me, your lucky star you’re singing Satellite.
“You should have known” was his second tool to make us scream instead of sing and actually he succeeded once again!
It was around 2:45 am that the place was almost empty giving that it is Tuesday and people have work the next morning.
DIONYSOS, I’m really proud of you my baby!
AMADEUS, you were amazing!
I would like to end my review using this quote:
“Successful people are not afraid to fail. They have the ability to accept their failures and continue on, knowing that failure is a natural consequence of trying. The law most powerful of all success laws because you only really fail when you quit trying”.
Thank you THerz for making this night an unforgettable one![/align]
