Review John Digweed @ The Warehouse Feb 18,2006

It took me a while to post my review about John Digweed's event on saturday for two main reasons: first because of my recovery from the event that took me more than 24 hours and second to see everyone's reaction about the new location and the event.

In my opinion, the warehouse was packed with the most eager progressive house fanatics who enjoyed their time to the max and (as everyone noticed) refused to leave until it was 6:30 a.m. It would be unfair to misjudge the music that has been played as it hits a certain type of crowd that trancers weren't part of. Everyone has put so much effort in it, starting with maDJam who always delivers nothing but the finest in house music and ending with Amadeus and Gunther and Stamina who proved themselves as THE only reference for trance and tech house in Lebanon. There is no point in revewing John Digweed's set because no words could describe the music he played. The track selection and the ups and downs that he intended to create in his set made me realize how genius this particular talent is and how much the international EDM scene would be missing today if he wouldn't be playing progressive house this way. IMO, It is totally disrespectful to call John Digweed's music boring and monotonous. My eyes wouldn't believe how happy the crowd was, moving with every song the legend has dropped. It might not be my type or someone else's type of music but at least we have to respect what this guys has put as effort and concentration in delivering a magnificent set. We can say that we didn't like his music but we can never say his music was boring. It's not exactly what the 4,500 clubbers would say and it's surely not the decoration or the dancers that kept them there till 6.30 a.m.

Johnny please add "IN MY OPINION" when you make such a claim because afterall it is your opinion. Obviously, many didnt agree with you on this point and personally I dont either.

"THE only reference for" is a very big claim that neglects the fact of other DJs who are working hard to improve the local scene. I am sorry my friend we cannot ignore their time and effort invested to achieve positive results. It is very important to give them credit and the respect they deserve to serve our scene better. Afterall, in few years from today they will take over the DJ-dom and spread their talent nation wide.

Anyways, lets get back to the topic at hand John Digweed's Review.

we cannot simply pick any DJ around and consider him as a reference. A DJ must have experience above all and the skills to perfectly mix and beatmatch his music. some of us might know how to select the appropriate tracks but at the same time we might not know how to beatmatch. When we call someone a reference, we truly know he is worth being called that because of his rich background/experience and his unmatched mixing skills.

I repeat that, unfortunately -and im not being biased here- those great DJs are the only reference in Lebanon today and there won't be others till we witness someone reaching their level, including myself (hopefully). It's only a matter of hard work, concentration AND practicing. Guys we still have a long way to go and believe me : patience is a virtue. you cannot be stars from one day to another and you can never be such references as our fellow DJs if you don't take that long way.

You have to live with what you are at the moment and you have to earn your success your own hardworking way. if you think you're working hard, work harder till you get there!

you don't have someone to support you? support yourself and get your own contacts and sponsors if you ever need them. this can never be a reason for you not to be between the best of the best. The world's biggest DJs have started from scratch, even the world's number 1 DJ. prove yourselves and your supporters will come to you!
