How much do you think does Marketing interferes in trance music?

In my opinion I listen only to a DJ who delivers good music and not because he is famous. We all listen to famous DJ's and thats why I believe that Marketing slightly intervene in Trance Music but not like everyone says: Famous DJ's are the best!. For example, everyone says thats Tiesto is known because of his marketing projects like his DVD's and some commercial stuff. Off course it has an effect but not the extent that famous DJs are good because they are popular.

What's your opinion?

I'm with you there mate, I could care less if a DJ is famous or has a DVD release behind him, it's all about what he delivers in terms of music, because as cliché as it may sound, but it's all about the music!

How much do you think does Marketing interferes in trance music?

To me, marketing means nothing.
It's not about the wrapping, it's about what's inside. This has been a guideline for me in not only my life, but also when it comes to trance music.

Just as you cannot judge a book by its cover, you cannot judge trance by how popular the DJ is or how the DJ is marketed.

Of course, for a DJ to be famous, he is going to gain a lot of listeners and the such. But I do not listen to a DJ simply because he is famous!

Famous DJs, like rudysaadi said, are not good just because they are popular.
It is their popularity that makes people want to listen to them more. You know, kinda like peer pressure, and wanting to be "in" and stuff.

Tiny example : Tiesto. (only one I could think of)
So many people I know went to Tiesto only because of the Marketing, you know, number one DJ in Lebanon, etc. When I asked them if they knew who Tiesto was, they couldn't answer (because their answer was a no )

Don't get me wrong, marketing and commercialism can help a DJ soar high of course!

But to me, it doesn't matter at all.

marketing never affects my preferences in any production/set. After all it's not the person that i care much about, it's all in the music!

Yes, Rudy you have a point regarding the top3 or more. They do have a good
deal of marketing efforts floating around - now, how deeply that influences
their sound, then that varies betwee never DJ as an individual who's sticking
to his sound and keeping it quality or preferes to play/produce what others
feel more like listening. He can't keep a close-mind about his music and keep
it on the same style for years, nor can he flip it to something that totally
appeals to the largest number possible of people (assuming that this brings
down its quality). So it's more of a crossroad once he got famous.

Personally, and as everybody mentioned already, it's what the music
delivers. I get music sometimes from young artists and promos posted
across forums to just share their music: I don't even know who the chab is
but I love it because it's good. The genre I listen to happens to be less
exposed than the rest of trance and a chunk of EDM (though it's getting
out of its box quite quick) what reflects on its DJs and producers being less
exposed something which I, again, don't really care for. Let's say J00F or
Wizzy Noise got highly exposed and lost their sound: then they're dropping
out of my list. On the contract, being famous and properly marketed yet
keeping their sound at the quality it has, then that also won't change
anything for me either.
