It has come to my attention that it a hopeless attempt to educate an EDM hungry crowd with the proper side of EDM through events and live mixes, and that people focus more on what is being played on the radio... Especially local radio stations.

So I was thinking: Why not start a local radio station that focuses on EDM?

What exactly are the steps for doing so? I am aware that there will be huge sums of money involved, but what exactly has to be done to start one?

^In terms of equipment i think not..... But in terms of legal issues, i am sure ALOT of money is involved...

I highly doubt that idea would work,with Internet Radio taking over,a bunch of giant radio stations that people remotely listen to,podcasts,A list,B list, and amateur djs playing left and right,it's gonna be very hard to gather a radio crowd,even the supposely large radio stations are striving to stay in business.

But to go back to your real question,the real battle starts with getting Legal Rights,followed by equipments,transmission systems,getting engineers to get things to work constantly,Licensing your material.

It's a nice revolutionary thoughtful idea in the Arab World but it's unlikely people are gonna pick it up fast,by the time they do you might be almost broke,if you insist on going forward with this project you better have a kick-ass budget that enables you to take it till the end,with success comes competition and other investors are gonna follow and have their own project too,you're gonna need huge budget to keep up and always upgrade,and improve.

Actually I live in the UAE. I never checked the legal issues, but I was wondering what exactly has to be done here in order to get a radio station up and running.

Plus, I have a different idea too for running it.

I've been working at a radio station for 4 months now. Equipment wise, all you will need is a computer with liscenced windows and running a radio program on a 4 channel mixer which would be hooked to relays and antennas to transmit the sound.


this is not so costly, but what costs a huge sum of money is the radio liscence that you will have to purchase from the government!

I remember back in the day in Lebanon when we had over 160 radio stations and 40 TV channels...

Until the government decided to establish order...

Nowadays it's become a huge investment...

Icepick, could you find out for me how much would it cost to get a license? Are we talking mills or thous?

well I can tell you why it wouldn't work (although i'd love for it to happen) because in order to keep up the radiostation(lets say you got started) you need to advertise on it its the #1 source of funds for a radiostation andif you are not commercial and only a minimal crowd would listen to it nobody would want to put their ads on ur station and u'll be in deficit before u know it..
