The good old Progressive Trance sound is definitely witnessing a resurrection this year. Away from the equally rich modern ProgTrance sound, such releases as the original mix of Flood Warning serve as a reminder that Progressive Trance can still be served on a mellow plate of lush melodies and soft beats, apart from today's cutting edge sound of complex beats and phat basslines.
The first remix on the CD comes from Signalrunners who don't drift too far from that old-school ProgTrance feel while still offering some of the modern freshness. The result is clever combination of old dreamy melodies and new rich beats... a very decent combination I may add!
Another remix comes from Freedom Tribe, two different remixes actually. The first comes at us with a long, very long buildup which I didn't mind at all given the electronic complexity it provides, while the breakdown is a deep soothing crescendo of both melody and beat that doesn't quite explode at the end but does reach a certain climax with a simple but sweet piano. The second remix from Freedom Tribe is, as the title suggests, even deeper, with no actual breakdown, and in the spirit of that above-mentioned modern progressive sound. Both remixes may sound somewhat similar at a first glance, but a closer examination reveals vast differences, and that's a good thing!
