ID&T Trance 2004 (Vol. 1)
Posted: Mon Jun 21, 2004 6:45 pmTrance compilations... there were times there were hundreds of them with obscure names like Trance vol 100 part 175 and was crammed with 4 CD's full of the cheapest tracks ever, and 10 good tracks pull the buyer across the line to buy it. Ever since the trance explosion in the end nineties trance compilations were selling like hot cakes and the amount of commercial trash grew to enormous heights. Since the downfall of the sales in the CD-industry, many crap compilations have disappeared. The only way to get high selling numbers of your album/compilation nowadays is a big name (Tiësto, Armin) or a big company name (ID&T, TMF, MTV). ID&T comes with the Trance 2004 vol 1 compilation just before the summer to enjoy these tracks during the trip. After the Trance Energy compilation debacle my faith that this would be something almost faded. But there's light in the end of the tunnel...
This compilations is meant for the people that hear all those trancesongs on the radio and most of the time don't reach further then the name Tiësto, Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten. No wonder these big names are all in the start of the tracklisting, so that the potential buyer will immediatly recognize his hero's and buy it the same second. Also Ferry, Tijs, Paul, Rank 1 and Marco V are present on the frontcover for recognizable faces. But looking a little further on the tracklist we see that the selection of ID&T is alot better then on previous unmixed compilations. All the tunes are more or less good quality tracks that have proven their value on dancefloors across Europe.
Tracks like Havannah - Havannah, Jan Gustaffson - Hallucination and Riva - Morning Dust are quite nice tracks between, ofcourse, alot of ID&T's own material including the older Airscape - Sosei and Jesselyn - Tonka. It's alltogether a big wave of trancehits.
Conclusion
Rating these albums is always difficult. For the people that want an uncomplicated set of hit-tracks in a row this is a good purchase. The die-hards will leave this in the store and search for more "credible" material with longer versions of the tracks. Still ID&T focuses on a big crowd and does that very well with this album.
