OceanLab ~ Satellite

Postby DIONYSOS » Mon Apr 19, 2004 9:41 pm

One of the most talked-about and played Trance records of the latest months is most definetly OceanLab ~ Satellite. This track, produced by the guys behind Above & Beyond, is already the fourth single of this highly successful project and this one seems to be the biggest stormer yet, as it is played by almost every big DJ, from Jules to Armin . The fourth member that completes OceanLab is one of the Trance scene's biggest vocal stars at the moment: Justine Suissa. The record reviewed here is the release on the German Euphonic label, which has put a new mix on the vinyl.

A1: Alex Odden Flipside Vocal Mix
This is the new remix that is exclusively on the Euphonic release - and a kinda odd remix indeed! The previously uplifting trancer has been rebuilt in a strange club track with some electro influences. It was clear that Alex Odden wanted to do something different with the track. It's a short track, with some nice twist regarding the vocals, but it can't reach the big heights of the other 2 mixes.

A2: Markus Schulz Coldharbour Remix
American DJ/Producer Markus Schulz reworked the hands in the air trancer into a long, dark-edged proggy track. Deep basslines and mysterious sounds are the keymarks of this mix. Justine's voice is cleverly appearing throughout the track to back up easier parts of the tune and sometimes appears in full force as well. The track builds up very slowly in the typical Markus Schulz style before unleashing a long breakdown with some epic sounds surrounding the chorus. When the bassline reappears, the track reaches its climax only to slowly build down afterwards. An excellent progressive remix of this track.

B: Original Mix
No matter how many remix contests are organized or how big the names of the remixers of this track are, the original still is the most popular and best mix of the track. Energetic, danceable, and on top of that: very 'Above & Beyond'! The awesome lyrics, Suissa's sweet voice, the perfect build-up, and the great melody make this track one of the modern Trance classics.

Great vinyl and absolutely worth every dollar you pay for it. The Original Mix is the champ, but Markus Schulz' remix is a very nice piece of dreamy progmusic as well. The Alex Odden Flipside Vocal Mix is quite experimental and strange, but gives a new twist to the track and the concept. Other remixes not included on this vinyl that I'd suggest:
Above & Beyond Progressive Mix
Force 10 Remix
Filo & Peri's Whirlpool Remix
Senses Remix
Aly & Fila Remix
JBS Extended Vocal Mix
Spacechild Remix
