This is lovely psychedelic stuff - well structured, catchy melodies, and innovative synth work.
I absolutely loved the bassline work and the whole attitude of the album is very straight forward: this is straight up progressive material - dark and edgey, this album provides enough material to light up a progressive set on fire. Progressive suckers such as Dion, Cube, and myself would be literally all over this release. Rich in substance and offerings for a very well built progressive epic. I'd describe the material in it as the type you'd play towards the end of your set right as you approach your peak - very playful!
The later half of the CD though, is a whole different story; we're talking 4/4 kicks, a moderate 135 bpm psyc, and very rough-on-the-edges basslines - SUBLIME!
Progressive Psy albums normally get stale and predictable as some artists would be tied down into their field, that one sound. Suntree, however, manages to break away from that and the elevation in the album from progressive to almost full-on psy is smooth, impressive, and substantial to the whole atmosphere of the CD.
Highly recommended! If you like your progressive; get it. But keep an open mind as this is not hello kitty progressive.
