The whole"article" talks about how judgmental people are on message boards in a sarcastic way.

Artists: Voting for DJ Mag’s #1 DJ in the world has begun . One of the most debated discussions of the year incites people from the entire dance music scene. A comical look at why only YOU can make the difference in this years vote.

The time has come, you anxiously wait the entire year for this moment when your blood can begin to boil and your anger can build up as you see the selections people have made from around the world. First you regret not writing to DJ Mag earlier to request that Americans not be given the right to vote. After all it is those terrible Americans that ruined this whole thing anyways, what do they know about dance music, or voting for that matter? Dance music may have begun on the disco floors of New York and the house parties in Chicago and Detroit, but that was then and this is now, why should Americans be allowed to vote, they are not as informed as you, they may spend tons of money at clubs, on digital music sites, but that still does not give them a right to vote. You meant to start a thread on this at your favorite message board, but no time now, you have to prepare to ridicule those who may disagree with you.

Your anger really begins at the mere mention of the previous winners, known as the Big Three; Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, and Armin Van Buuren. Let anyone dear say they will vote again for any of those three and you will beat them down with your words.

Tiesto should not be #1 you claim because he’s not the one making the music, you read a bunch of times, on a bunch of different forums, that Tiesto is really just a figure head and somewhere behind a curtain there is an engineer responsible for all of Tiesto’s success. You also know that Tiesto can’t mix very well, although you have never spun a day in your life, you know this to be true because you read it. You ignore the fact that Tiesto sells out stadiums and arenas around the world, all those customers must know nothing about music, at least not as much as you.

Paul van Dyk, you realize he was great once, back in 1999 he played this great set, you weren’t there, but you saw the track list, and that let’s you know that PVD was at the pinnacle of his career. His current sets are not the same, they are full of music from current producers, but it also angers you when he plays his hits from years ago, you believe they should not be on his current track list. Wait a minute.. .You don’t like his new stuff, you don’t want him to play his old stuff, but you know he was once great because the track listings say so!

Armin Van Buuren, now this really gets you going mad, you are still upset over episode 278 when he played 2 tracks you didn’t like. Armin has 8 hours of radio each month, but you find the time to get angry at those tracks you feel don’t belong there. When he plays electro you complain its not techno, when he plays house you complain its not trance. You know only you can do a better job and “A State of Trance” deserves better. Thankfully you have found many people across the globe who agree with you that they too can do a better job, but you all can’t seem to agree which one of you is up for it.

You choose to ignore the fact that any of the three sell out the little club in your hometown, weeks in advance. You say this is only because the people don’t know better. It is you who will tell them who to like and dislike, and selling out clubs, festivals, and arenas around the world doesn’t make someone deserving of the#1 DJ slot….. But wait, what does?

Someone on the forum writes its time for a new #1 DJ, you agree. First comes the suggestion of Ferry Corsten, one of the most likable people on the scene, who introduced a harder hitting, more electro trance to the masses, you disagree, you say he’s too electro, and plays too many vocals..why that’s bad, only you know!

Next the nomination of Above and Beyond, one of the hardest working groups in dance music, with tours all over the world, side projects, label management, and holding down the fort as the last of a dying breed, still creating euphoric, traditional trance. You decide they are not worthy because they are too trancey, and you don’ t want another trance DJ to win.

Sander Van Doorn is suggested next, probably one of the hottest names in EDM, he has shed his trance label with some of the best, techiest, tracks of the year. He has leap frogged over many others in name recognition because of his devotion to being cutting edge, yet you are still mad over the few broadcasts from his selfcast videos that skipped or didn’t work out. You will not put your anger aside, so SVD is not deserving.

Then comes those who say it’s time for a different genre to take center stage. One person says Eric Prydz, you immediately dismiss it, yes Prydz under the alias Pryda has probably had the best year of any producer finding his tracks played by DJs across all genres in all places around the world, but you cant forgive that he went #1 on the UK charts with “Call On Me”, how dare he make a hit, you do not approve.

Carl Cox name comes up, one of our pioneers, who is as responsible as anyone for the success of Ibiza, but you don’t like him because he plays tracks of others, always changes his sets, and you can’t figure out if he is drum and bass, techno, minimal, tribal, or house. This confuses you so it cannot be Cox.

Sasha and Digweed, you quickly realize are untouchable, you will be attacked by others on the board should you utter a slight against them. So you take this fight another way, you argue that they were better last time they toured together, you have never seen them live, not this year, not last time, never, nor do you own any of their tracks, but through your message board knowledge you know they are not what they used to be, yes every one changes, but you want the past, because the past was great, at least that’s what you read.

Deadmau5, this is the one that gets you going crazy. You know from all those threads how evil the mouse really is. Now you know first hand because your friend’s, bother’s, cousin, has a goldfish with an uncle that worked at a club where he said he saw Deadmau5 be nasty to another DJ, and that confirms what you already knew. This is not about his great music, this is about his personality and that what this vote is based on isn’t it?

Like a lawyer getting ready to argue the greatest, biggest case ever you get your arguments ready, You read all the chain emails, listen to all the pleas of DJ’s on their daily broadcasts, you open the MySpace messages and look at the Facebook pages. You begin the battle:
Markus Schulz-too progressive, Roger Sanchez- too much house, Erik Morillo-too much P. Diddy, Infected Mushroom-too weird… your anger builds with every suggestion

You have decided that you and you alone, should be responsible for naming the #1 DJ in the world. This year you are voting for an obscure DJ who produced some great tracks this year. Now the rest of the masses may not realize these are great tracks but you will create threads and explain why they are great. You know better than anyone what is great and what is not, so you should decide who wins the #1 DJ in the world award.

Note: The author realizes that satire articles do offend people and outside of the English speaking world sarcasm does not always translate well, yet the author offers NO apologies!

Oh boohoo Mr. Mike Schirtzer!

He actually took the time to type out all this. Who's angry now? LOL

The post is somewhat biased and not everyone thinks that way. He's projecting as many psychologists would say (i think). I bet you that he used to think that way last night before he went to bed and voted for his lovely "DJ"s and then woke up and decided he will be the hero poster of the whole Top 100 DJ Poll.

DJ Mag's Top 100 DJ poll is a stupid representation of the DJs nowadays.

Why?

Well, it either should be renamed to EDM TOP 100 DJ POLL, or we might as well include DJs from other genres. Because as far as ANY DJ would go, these guys are nothing in comparison to scratch and hiphop DJs. Those people have MAD skills.

The other main issue that the poll faces is the fact that until this very moment, people are unable to differentiate between a DJ and an EDM composer/producer. Or they simply mix both together because they like to think that a DJ's job is basically composing music on the fly. Therefore, the instant a good producer shows up, people assume or better yet comprehend "this guy's a good DJ!!" and then? *vote*

Really, if anyone knows or sees Mr. Mike Schirtzer, do tell him I would love to invite him over for a warm cup of shut the fuck up!

As far this guy's post goes, it wasn't THAT interesting. It's merely a representation of how many voters think but not ALL. And yes he generalized!

Well he did generalize and used excessive sarcasm but you can't blame his frustration,Obviously he came up with his conclusions after browsing different message boards and if EDM listeners were separated into 3 classes based on how informed they are i think his article would be describing how the 3rd class operates when it comes to voting to their favorite dj.

The theme out of his whole article is that even the top 3 aren't really a top 3 after all because the mass amount of voters getting them on top don't even know who they are voting for and based on what, that's a problem on djmag's part,a lot of good names and talents are being left out because they don't have their own category.

The whole vast difference and confusion between a DJ and Producer is a different thing, and it's gonna take a while till people (including some of us) learn how to identify who is a DJ and who is a Producer.

The DJ/producer mixup is a very common mistake between voters. People actually think that ISOS series are music albums and not compilations. So basically they think that every track on that album is by Tiesto. And when the album hits peak sales point, and people love it, they vote for him. Same goes for any other DJ.

His frustration won't change anything though.

By the way, what he said about the top 3 was somewhat incorrect. I'm not sure if PvD has an educated fanbase anymore!

I mean Tiesto does have an educated fanbase of people who have been following him for a long time. The same goes for Armin.

But I don't think I have heard of anyone who is EDM educated and is into PvD's music or mixing.

Weird
