Prince Faisal Bin Fahad to Buy 25-50% stake at Liverpool!

Postby Night Stalker » Sat Sep 26, 2009 2:25 pm

It seems that the EPL will turn to GPL in the next couple of years.

The deal will be announced after the Liverpool - Hull match i heard.

It is rumored also that the prince will buy his way to full stakes of the club within the next few years. With DIC and Shiek Kharafi from Kuwait showing interest in the PL it wouldn't be far fetched to see 5 PL clubs owned by the gulf rich/royalty within the next few years.

here is a link to the prince interview on ART sports:

its not like he is the crown prince or anything... matter of fact i bet you the vast majority of the Saudi population haven't even heard of him prior to last night. As for Chelsea and ManU, first of all Ibramovic doesn't seem to be having any intentions to sell anytime soon.. and even if he did i seriously doubt that he will provide him with an attractive offer, not to mention that even if he did it will be most likely out of the economic reach of that very young prince. As for ManU, the same applies. However, in the case of Liverpool it is a huge brand that has been run poorly mainly in terms of marketing amongst others for decades now, and therefore, could provide better economic returns. Furthermore, their current owners have been looking for investments in the club since nearly the first day they got into office, mainly due to their financial in- competencies amongst other things.

it might still not go through though, knowing how greedy stupid Hicks and Gillette are, they however, have already signed an exclusive marketing and academies rights deal for the Middle East and North Africa, they are yet to finalize the 25-50% share deal however and are still in negotiations.

Spain La Liga BLOWS (from a financial standpoint). there are 2 brands and the rest are Koossaah!!!
I don't understand the problem really--since footie has been put on TV, its a business 1st/sports 2nd situation. Its like that for players, managers, owners, basically everyone but a die-hard fan. and real fans should just deal with it!

Take the case of Liverpool discussed here: this prince buys it, they build a new stadium, larger capacity, employing several thousand more people, boosting Liverpool economy that is desperate for some action. He'll inject new blood, new players so that footie fans like me don't have to watch Lucas play anymore
Nobody complains when an American or European buys a team and shoves debts in the hundreds of milliions down its neck. but when a rich arab shoves nothing but cash, players, etc.....OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! god forbid!
thats my dose of arab pride today :)

56% of the football supporting population of Spain either support Barca or RM... That is how trash the La Liga is in terms of marketing and business opportunities, other teams can't even get marketed within their own country let alone globally.. as for arabs or foreign investors buying Barca or RM its nearly impossible since one is a political tool of the Spanish government and the other is owned by the "local" fans. As for the Serie A, the three main reasons that investors don't seem to find it attractive might be: 1) It lost an enormous amount of fan base to the EPL, due to the failure of the Italians to properly capitalize on globalizing their team brands. 2) Not even Italians seem to want watch their own league nowaddays... have anyone seen AC Milan vs Zur game in the CL? u could hear crickets in the San Siro.. thats how much the Serie A is suffering. 3) waaaaaaaaay too many political and bureaucratic complications in that league that would make any "wise" investor run away for cover.

In terms of what Bronko reffered to as: "oh no god forbid" syndrome, well, i totally agree on that. people need to stop being band-wagoners and having flavour of the month opinions, and try to think rationally instead of just blindly following opinion trends. Since the beginning of time, there was always "super clubs" that mostly relied on their financial power and prestige to lure away all the best players and create a widening gap between them and their competition... noone complained when RM was doing this since the beginning of time, and then AC Milan followed and then Barca (which failed miserably until the recent few years) and then Chelsea etc..

so question is... how does ADDING more "super clubs" into the equation make it more of a monopoly? doesn't take a genius to figure out that it might just do the opposite.

In Short, its always been big fish eat small fish who in turn eat smaller fish in football. lower division clubs feed higher division ones, latin american clubs feed european ones, european small clubs feed bigger ones. It is certainly much more entertaining for both me and you and all fans in the world to have more than a handful of "super clubs" competing against each other.

Just like there is an NBA and NFL, we will sometime in the no distant future have a "super league" in football. Lets hope the knobs in Fifa and Uefa pull their heads outta their asses and form a well thought out european one soon, before the english go home with ALL of the spoils.
